Marika earned a Bachelor of Music in Performance and Classical Composition, with a minor in Contemporary Conducting from Berklee College of Music. She went on to complete a Master of Music in Jazz Performance at McGill University.

She is an assistant professor at Brandon University and the Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory of Music. She has been on faculty at the Monterey Jazz Festival, Berklee College of Music‘s Groove Weekend, McGill ConservatoryMcGill University, and Prince Edward County Jazz Festival and has guest lectured at the Malta Jazz Festival, Canadian Jazz Summit and McGill Executive Institute.

She has also assisted at the National Music Camp of Canada, University of Toronto Jazz Workshop and Humber College Community Music Hand Drumming Workshop.
